Chris Chapman

The objective of the Mentoring Scheme is to extend Camfed’s support to young women graduates of the Leadership and Enterprise Training Programme by linking them with experienced entrepreneurs in both the UK and Zambia. In Zambia, the mentors are drawn from the young women’s network, Cama. The UK and Zambian mentors will work in partnership to advise the young women as they plan for the future, overcome challenges and grow their enterprises.

Camfed works to break the cycle of poverty and disease in rural Africa by educating girls and investing in economic and leadership opportunities for young women. Please visit their site here to see more detail about their invaluable work.

Chris was approached recently and has agreed to be a UK based mentor to a group who are successfully running a pre-school with 65 children so far enrolled, aged between two and six. There is a long waiting list with parents keen to send their children to the school. The aim is to help vulnerable children in the area with an education they may not have been in the position to get and Chris's objective is to ensure the business is organised, efficient and well managed.

Chris’s experience as an entrepreneur and his 20+ years of business, financial and commercial know-how stands him in good stead for the role, but also having started what is now an extremely successful children’s nursery with his wife, Jayne in Ely 5 years ago, makes his knowledge particularly relevant. Chris and Jayne will be taking an active part in the mentoring scheme to increase the group’s chances of success.
